Dr. Jabeen Bharwani was born and raised in Calgary. She attended the University of Calgary before graduating with Honours from Pacific University College of Optometry in 2009. Her extensive ocular disease background was acquired during her external clinical rotations at the Veterans Hospital in Fresno, California as well as at a co-management ophthalmology surgical site in Lake Havasu, Arizona where they performed eyelid and cataract surgeries. Dr. Bharwani also completed an internal clinical rotation specializing in amblyopia and neuro-optometry in Portland, Oregon. She spent three years practicing in Seattle, Washington before returning home to Calgary in 2012, where she has gained valuable experience working with a corneal ophthalmologist who performs surgeries such as corneal transplants, LASIK, PRK, cataract and refractive lens exchange surgeries.
Dr. Bharwani has a passion for giving back to those who are less fortunate and has volunteered with several international eye care mission trips to the Philippines, Honduras and Guatemala. She also held a position on the board for AMIGOS, a non-profit organization providing eye care and eyeglasses to the underserved. Her other voluntary services include offering eye exams to the homeless with Project Homeless Connect in Portland, Oregon as well as performing vision screenings at the Special Olympics.
As an active member of the optometry community, Dr. Bharwani has been involved in teaching family medicine residents and optometry students. She has given numerous presentations to family medicine physicians, senior citizen groups, as well as the community at large.
Dr. Bharwani takes pride in her profession and her focus is to provide the highest quality of care to her patients. She strongly believes in the importance of patient education, and takes the time to answer all of your questions with an approachable style of communication.
When she’s not practicing optometry she enjoys cooking, painting, travelling and of course spending time with her husband and daughter.
