Meet the Doctor

Dr. Aleem Jiwa

Dr. Aleem Jiwa was born and raised in the city of Calgary, Alberta. After finishing high school, he attended the University of Alberta and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences and psychology. He then moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he earned a degree of Doctor of Optometry at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University.

During his four years at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Dr. Jiwa was the president of the American Optometric Students Association, and served as the student representative on the College’s Board of Trustees for two years. He also served as the National Liaison for the Optometric Extension Program Foundation and as president of the Gold Key Society, a student honor society.

Dr. Jiwa worked as an associate of the Alberta Sports Vision Institute of Edmonton and has a special interest in pediatrics and sports vision. These interests were developed during Dr. Jiwa’s clinical rotations in Edmonton, AB (sports vision and primary care), Philadelphia, PA (pediatrics), Ridgefield, CT (specialty contact lens and sports vision), Viera, FL for disease and geriatrics and Columbia, SC (disease and geriatrics).

Dr. Jiwa took the last seven years in practice to learn more about pediatrics and sports vision. Through the process he has gained experience in learning disorders, concussions, nutrition and sports vision enhancement. Dr. Jiwa enjoys educating his patients about nutrition and the impact of nutrition and stress on the eyes and body as a whole.

Patients who see Dr. Jiwa describe him as a compassionate and intelligent doctor who goes above and beyond for his patients. They appreciate the time he takes to address their needs and concerns.

Dr Jiwa has been involved in local charities as well as those abroad. He had the pleasure of meeting the founder of Optometry Giving Sight and wishes to continue the relationship of giving as he establishes himself in his home town. Dr. Jiwa is also a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists, Alberta Association of Optometrists, Calgary Society of Optometrists, College of Optometrists in Vision Development, Optometric Extension Program Foundation and serves on the Vision Development Rehabilitation Committee.

Dr. Jiwa enjoys participating in local festivals and activities with his wife and children. In his spare time, he enjoys movie nights, spending time with family, barbeques and tasting the finest Calgary cuisine.
